Improve health with a clean tongue

February 14, 2018

Have you ever woken up with a coating on your tongue and wondered what it's from? This can be a combination of bacteria, food debris, fungi, toxins, and dead cells. The best and only way to clean your tongue is to scrape it each morning.

The tongue is a great means for digestion, taste, looking at our inner health and boosting our immunity. When it is coated, it is not working optimally, and we may even have halitosis. Many people say they brush their tongue with their toothbrush, so isn’t this the same thing? Brushing your tongue with the toothbrush simple pushes the soft plaque around the mouth and often this can cause hard plaque build-up on the teeth. It is not the most hygienic way of removing the coating from the tongue. Ideally, you want to scrape the coating right off the tongue so that it is out of your system completely.

Ayurvedic cultures have been cleaning their tongues for thousands of years. In the 17th and 18th centuries it seems to have been reserved only for the affluent and now it’s making a comeback. The Western medical world is noticing the importance of tongue cleaning as a part of standard oral health. This simple practice can be life changing and here’s why.

  • Cleans toxins and bacteria from the tongue.

  • Increases the flavours of your food and digestion because you are clearing the coating that covers your taste buds.

  • Improves digestive health by gently stimulating internal organs.

  • Improves dental health

  • Helps eliminate undigested food particles from the tongue

  • Boosts your immune system by removing the toxins that otherwise may be reabsorbed into your system.

How to use a tongue scraper. I’ve saved you the gross YouTube video and we’ll skip right to the step by step guide.

  • Scrape your tongue first thing in the morning

  • Using your scraper gently scrape from the back to the front of your tongue. The nodes on the back of your tongue are quite sensitive, so be gentle here.

  • You can also scrape the sides of your tongue if you feel your scraper has missed these parts

  • Scrape as many times as you need to, usually five to ten times, cleaning the scraper between each pass

  • Follow the cleaning with brushing, flossing and a large glass of water

It’s so easy, takes less than one minute and the cost tongue scraper is so small, and it lasts for years. The health benefits are incredible, and your mouth feels deliciously clean afterwards.
